about the academy

The Academy of Doctors of Audiology (formerly the Academy of Dispensing Audiologists) was founded in 1977 by nine practitioners to foster and support the professional dispensing of hearing aids by qualified audiologists in rehabilitative practices. Today, ADA offers programming and support to those audiologists and students who desire to be independent practitioners in whatever setting they choose to practice. Towards that goal, ADA offers a Fall conference and smaller regional meetings and seminars providing information and resources regarding all aspects of dispensing. ADA also encourages training programs to include aspects of hearing aid dispensing and awards a grant yearly to individuals who foster those goals. The Wernick Award is presented annually to an education/researcher who displays vigor and expertise in extending the knowledge base used for fitting and evaluating hearing aids. Feedback, ADA's quarterly magazine, details the many current issues confronting audiologists. And, true to its mission, ADA was heavily involved and continues to spearhead the implementation phase of the Au.D. degree program which was spawned at the 1988 conference on audiological education.

MISSION STATEMENT
The ADA is dedicated to leadership in advancing practitioner excellence, high ethical standards, professional autonomy, hearing and balance care technology, and sound business practices in the provision of quality audiological care.

WORKING TOGETHER
The Academy of Doctors of Audiology collaborates with other professional organizations, such as the American Academy of Audiologists, the Audiology Foundation of America, the Audiology Resource Association and Audiology Online, strengthening grassroots efforts to achieve positive legislative changes at the local and federal level.
